Transportation

Flagstaff is situated at a major crossroads, easily accessible from the east, west and south. Interstates 40 and 17 provide direct access from the West’s major metro areas, including Albuquerque, El Paso, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and, of course, Phoenix and Tucson. Highway 89 provides access from states to the north, and Highway 180 links Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon, just 81 miles (130 km) to the northwest

Arizona Shuttle is an easy, safe, and reliable city-to-city shuttle that can be used instead of renting a car. It operates directly from the Phoenix Airport to the train station in downtown Flagstaff (a few blocks from the High Country Conference Center).

Traditional Arrivals

  • From the East or West:  Interstate 40
  • From the South/Phoenix:  Interstate 17
  • From the North/Page/Lake Powell/Monument Valley:  Highway 89

If you are coming from Phoenix, take I-17 north and follow the numerous “Flagstaff” signs. I-17 terminates in Flagstaff at its junction with I-40 and becomes Milton Road which in turn becomes Route 66 in downtown Flagstaff. This is the main artery through Flagstaff.

Scenic Arrivals

  • From Sedona:  Highway 89A north through Oak Creek Canyon
  • From Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim):  Highway 180 south

Rideshare and Roommate Searches

Workshop participants looking for a rideshare opportunity from the Phoenix Airport, Flagstaff Airport, and/or to share rental car expenses can post a notice on the workshop rideshare bulletin board.

If you are interested in finding a roommate to share housing expenses, post a notice on the roommate bulletin board.

Both bulletin boards reside in the USRA/LPI Meeting Portal, so users will need to log into the Portal in order to view the available listings or to post a message.

Before submitting a post, participants should check the board to see if there are any current posts that match their specifications. To contact the poster, simply click on the name to the left of the listing.

Individuals can edit or remove their own posts by clicking on the "Edit" button and then resubmitting the modified post. To remove a post, simply delete the text and then resubmit.

USRA/LPI is not responsible for the content of any posts, for arrangements agreed to by users, or for mediating disputes that arise from any arrangements.  USRA/LPI reserves the right to remove posts that are deemed inappropriate.

Note: All electronic submission forms are part of the Meeting Portal, which requires users to set up a personal profile to access our electronic forms (setting up a profile is quick and easy, requiring only a few minutes of your time).
