Conference Location

The city of Carlsbad is located in Southeast New Mexico in the beautiful Pecos River valley at an elevation of 3,295 feet. Geologically, it is situated in the western part of the world-renowned Permian Basin, one of the great oil-producing provinces in the United States. Carlsbad is a moderately warm-weather city, with average daily highs in January of about 60°F, and night-time lows of about 30°F (although snow and temperatures much colder than this are possible). Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located 18 miles southwest of the city.

The conference will be hosted at the National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI) located at 400-1 Cascades Ave., Carlsbad, New Mexico.

As travel plans are made, keep in mind the conference will adjourn at 12:20 on November 8.

Transportation

Flights to Carlsbad are provided from Albuquerque and Dallas/Fort Worth by Boutique Air. Major airlines serve both of those latter locations and also El Paso, Lubbock, and Midland, Texas. Another option is to fly into Hobbs, New Mexico which is a one-hour drive to Carlsbad. The nearest airport with full-service airline connections is in El Paso, approximately a two-and-one-half-hour drive from Carlsbad.

Rideshare and Roommate Searches

Conference participants looking for a rideshare opportunity from any of the airports listed above to Carlsbad, New Mexico and/or to share rental car expenses can post a notice on the conference rideshare bulletin board.

Availability of hotel rooms in Carlsbad is limited, as is the number of rooms in the block at the Stevens Inn Carlsbad. Participants may want to consider finding a roommate to share housing expenses by posting a notice on the roommate bulletin board.

Both bulletin boards reside in the USRA/LPI Meeting Portal, so users will need to log into the Portal to view the available listings or to post a message.

Before submitting a post, participants should check the board to see if there are any current posts that match their specifications. To contact the poster, simply click on the name to the left of the listing.

Individuals can edit or remove their own posts by clicking on the "Edit" button and then resubmitting the modified post. To remove a post, simply delete the text and then resubmit.
