The conference will be structured around invited and abstract-driven talks enhanced by focused discussion periods.
A one-day field trip is tentatively planned in association with this conference. Our concept is to spend half a day underground in Carlsbad Caverns looking at life forms that have found refuge there, and half a day visiting surface outcrops in the area. There are some really excellent surface examples that we could observe, such as the remarkable gypsum fracture communities that live in those rocks. The caverns portion of this field trip will be run regardless of weather, but the surface outcrop work may be canceled in the event of snow.
