Meeting Format

The 2019 Annual LEAG Meeting will be composed of invited talks, panels, breakout groups, extensive discussion, and two topical poster sessions. The meeting will follow two main themes:  Laying the Groundwork for the Planetary Decadal Survey and Preparing for the Return of Humans to the Moon via the Artemis Program.

Day 1 of the LEAG meeting will focus entirely on planning and preparation for the upcoming Planetary Decadal Survey. This will include breakout discussion sessions to begin to generate the forthcoming prioritized lunar science goals document in anticipation of the Planetary Decadal Survey.

Days 2 and 3 of the LEAG meeting will focus on Project Artemis. Day 2 will include programmatic briefings from the NASA Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorates, Space Technology Mission Directorate, and the Science Mission Directorate so the community can understand the envisioned scope of NASA’s lunar exploration programs. Days 2 and 3 will also include community discussions of topics that will be critical to the success of Artemis:

  • Enabling sustainability of the Exploration enterprise
  • Developing a true cislunar economy
  • Opportunities for international collaboration and contribution, including presentations from international partners on their lunar exploration plans

International and commercial partners will play a role in our return to the Moon and will be present at the annual LEAG meeting to facilitate discussion among all entities.

All oral presentations are invited, but abstracts are solicited (1,000 character maximum) for the following two topical poster sessions:  (1) 2019 LEAG-Sponsored ISRU Workshop Results and (2) Instrument and Mission Proposals.
