Isotope Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry Workshop

The Isotope Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry Workshop is scheduled for September 10–12, 2024, at the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) in Houston, Texas. This workshop offers training in applications and techniques in isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry.

Overview

Isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry are important tools to investigate extraterrestrial materials that assist in understanding the origin and evolution of the Solar System. In addition to the training in isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry applications and techniques, the workshop will include discussions about topics such as the application of volatiles geochemistry, trace elemental geochemistry, stable isotope geochemistry, and radiometric dating. Participants will have an opportunity to visit state-of-the-art laboratories at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), interact with experts at JSC and the LPI, and receive feedback on research projects.

Targeted Skills

  • Clean lab chemistry
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)
  • Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS)
  • Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS)
  • Multicollector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS)
