Meeting Planning Services

Meeting Location

The USGS Flagstaff Science Campus is located at 2255 N. Gemini Drive, Flagstaff, AZ, 86001. The meeting will be held in the Astrogeology Science Center building, Roddy Room.

The USGS Astrogeology Science Center is at 2255 N. Gemini Dr./Rd. Note that Google Maps says Rd., but locals call it Dr. Building Six on the Flagstaff Science Campus. The main entrance to the public building is on the southeastern side near the flagpole. Due to equipment malfunction, the main entrance doors always remain locked, and someone with a key or someone already inside the building will be needed to gain access. We are working with locals to have someone on call to let attendees in, but please anticipate a short delay.

Attendees will enter the lobby with Grover, the lunar roving vehicle prototype, and will turn left into a short hallway that leads to the main building area. Turn right to find the restrooms and a water fountain. Turn left after the restroom and proceed down the hallway, past multiple offices, and the break room to find the entrance to the Roddy Room through double doors.

Masks are not required, but they are not discouraged. Masking is optional at this meeting by Arizona, Flagstaff, the USGS, and the PCC. However, we encourage attendees to practice precautions they feel comfortable with, and no attendee should pressure another to decrease or remove those precautions.

On-Site Parking Information

Parking is free on the USGS Flagstaff campus for participants. Paid public parking is available in downtown Flagstaff. Carpooling is recommended.

On-Site Internet Access

The USGS has a guest wireless internet available for attendees. Information, including the network name and passcode, will be provided at the meeting. Please note that to establish the guest network for the meeting, organizers have said that reasonable attempts were made to ensure every connecting device has the latest antivirus software installed. While devices will not be verified, attendees should make reasonable attempts to ensure that antivirus software on devices are updated.

The PCC will provide basic snack items throughout the day, including granola bars, chips, and other items. Drinks will not be provided. Meals are not included. Attendees will be responsible for meals.

There are no restaurants within reasonable walking distance of the USGS. However, there are plenty of restaurants across town and in the downtown area. While some restaurants provide free parking; others require the use of paid public parking.

We have made a group reservation for the local favorite, Salsa Brava, for lunch on August 9. Salsa Brava is a Mexican restaurant with a salsa bar that should be able to get us in and out within our 90-minute window. They have already been alerted that we will ask for separate checks.

Also, we have made a notice of intent for the local favorite Beaver Street Brewery for 5:30 p.m. on August 10. They do not accept reservations but knowing that we are coming should help secure a table.

Hotel Information

Attendees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and hotel reservations. Various hotels and motels are available at or below U.S. government per diem rates. The trains no longer blow whistles through town, so in-town hotels are no longer discouraged.

Airport Information

Attendees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements from either airport.

Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) is the closest airport to Flagstaff (7.6 miles from the meeting venue). Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) is the closest major international airport (154 miles from the meeting venue).

Flagstaff is also accessible from Phoenix by Amtrak train or the Groome Transportation Van Service.
