Designing and Sustaining Authentic Partnerships

Designing and Sustaining Authentic Partnerships
Date: April 25, 2022
Time: 3:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. CDT
Workshop Lead: Christine Shupla (USRA/Lunar and Planetary Institute)

Summary: Authentic partnerships where each partner’s needs are met, strengths recognized, and goals supported are critical tools in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable planetary community. In this workshop, we will explore the characteristics of authentic partnerships. Attendees will participate in activities to share insights and implementation strategies on designing and sustaining authentic partnerships.

Listening Session

Listening Session
Date: April 26, 2022
Time: 3:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. CDT
Moderator: Shawn M. Brooks (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology)

Summary: Listening sessions are intended to facilitate discussions with people to better understand their needs and the challenges they face. These sessions allow us to centralize the primary reason we come to IDEA spaces — people. In this listening session, we will provide the space for perspectives directly from those most affected by listening to leaders and advocates from different communities within the planetary sciences.

Proposal Writing Workshop

Proposal Writing Workshop: Tips to Writing Proposals and Building Resiliency Within Your Career

Time: 3:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. CDT
Workshop Lead: Christina Richey (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology)

Summary: One of the challenges faced by scientists is creating strong proposals. Using Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) from NASA’s Science Mission Directorate as a template, this workshop will focus on key points to communicating science through successful proposal writing. The workshop will also focus on how to understand one’s values and maintain those throughout this process.

Working Sessions

The conference includes two working sessions to develop and finalize detailed and tangible recommendations for the community. This conference outcome is intended to provide detailed guidance on how we, as a community, can move forward together. We will hold discussions on April 28 from 3:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. CDT and finalize the recommendations on April 29 from 3:30 p.m.– 4:30 p.m. CDT. Throughout the week, we will use Slack to hold asynchronous conversations on the recommendations to ensure that we are ready for the working sessions.

Note: All electronic submission forms are part of the Meeting Portal, which requires users to set up a personal profile to access our electronic forms (setting up a profile is quick and easy, requiring only a few minutes of your time).
