Transportation to Flagstaff and the Conference Venue
Flagstaff’s airport (FLG) has direct connections from Phoenix and Dallas/Fort Worth. It is sometimes cheaper and/or more convenient to fly to Phoenix or Las Vegas and travel by ground to Flagstaff from those termination points. From Phoenix, Groome Transportation (formerly the Arizona Shuttle) offers ten daily trips to Flagstaff, with drop-off options at the train station downtown or on NAU’s North Campus (both of these options are within a few blocks of the conference center). Alternately, attendees terminating in Phoenix can rent a car and drive to Flagstaff (2–3 hours). From Las Vegas, the only viable option is a rental car (4-hour drive).
The Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is several miles from the conference center in downtown Flagstaff. The best option to and from Flagstaff’s airport and the conference center is to hire an Uber, Lyft, or taxi (approximately a 15-minute drive, typically US$ 20 or less).
Flagstaff can also be reached by train on the Amtrak Southwest Chief line between Los Angeles and Chicago. The train station is located downtown, a few blocks from the conference center.
Rideshare Search
Conference attendees who are looking to share a ride from various airport locations can post a notice on the ACM 2023 rideshare board.
For privacy and security reasons, the rideshare board is located on the USRA Meeting Portal. Users must log into the portal to view the available listings or post a message.
Before submitting a posting, attendees should check the board to see if there are any current postings that match their specifications. To contact the poster, click on the person’s name to the left of the listing. Posts can be edited by clicking the “Edit” button and then resubmitting the modified post. To remove a posting, delete the text and resubmit.
USRA/LPI is not responsible for the content of these postings or mediating disputes that arise from such arrangements. USRA/LPI reserves the right to remove postings that are deemed inappropriate.
Getting Around Flagstaff
Rental cars are also available at the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport. From the conference center, many restaurants and hotels are within walking distance in the downtown Flagstaff area, and a rental car is not necessary to get around within the city once you arrive. Bus service is available via the Mountain Line. One-way bus tickets and day passes can be purchased on any bus for US$ 1.25 and US$ 2.50, respectively.
Housing Assistance
Subsidized or free housing in dormitories on the NAU campus will be available for a limited number of attendees of the ACM 2023. Applications for these opportunities will be considered on a rolling basis. Early-career scientists and those with the greatest demonstrated need will be given priority. To apply, send one paragraph with the required information to [email protected].
Applications must include:
- A brief description of your professional status (student, postdoc, etc.)
- A brief description of the work you intend to present at ACM 2023
- A description of your need for subsidized lodging support
- The potential impact on your participation in ACM 2023 without this support
