Conference Location
The conference will take place in the town of Haría in the northernmost volcanic chain of Lanzarote, at an altitude of 271 a.s.l. Surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean, the municipality forms part of Las Palmas Province. Numerous miradors (viewpoints) on this high ground offer views of the island, the most well-known being the Mirador del Río, a popular tourist attraction. To the northeast, the land is dominated by the Montaña Corona volcanic cone, which erupted approximately 20.000 years ago, forming the inhospitable Malpais de la Corona. This eruption also produced extensive lava tunnels called jameos, some of which have been developed into two of the island's most-visited geological attractions: the Cueva de Los Verdes and the Jameos del Agua. The town of Haría also hosts the house of famous artist and architect Cesar Manrique.

The conference venue will be in the Conference Room of La Tegala, which is part of a cultural center managed by the municipality, offering exhibit rooms and a restaurant that opens on the main square of the town. Some of the conference exhibitions will be hosted in the hall of El Aijibe of Haría. The plenary session will be hosted in the auditoriums of Jameos del Agua or Cueva de Los Verdes directly inside the lava tube of la Corona.

Social Dinner
The social dinner will take place in the Jameo del Agua restaurant. The Jameo del Agua is a series of lava tube collapses belonging to the Corona system. It is also an art, culture, and tourism center, created by local artist and architect César Manrique, and managed by the government of Lanzarote. Jameos del Agua consists of a subterranean salt lake, restaurant, gardens, emerald-green pool, museum, and auditorium.

Jameos del Agua is ecologically important as it is home to a unique and endemic species of squat lobster: the blind lobster Munidopsis polymorpha, a yellow-white and blind crustacean that is barely 1 cm in length. These squat lobsters are very sensitive to changes in the lagoon (derived from sea water), including effects from noise and light.

Just beside the Jameo del Agua restaurant it is possible to observe the initial sump lake of Tunnel de la Atlantida, the longest underwater lava tube explored to date, with 1.6 km of mapped conduit (see abstract 1087).

The meeting time will be at 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Jameo del Agua. There is no bus transportation planned for this event and participants will need to travel to the site in their own cars (10 minutes from the town of Haria). If anyone needs a ride, please notify the conference staff at the registration desk.

Lodging
Haría municipality offers several accommodation options and more than 20 different B&B and hotels in and around the town center. Other accommodations can be found along the ocean coast of Arrieta and Punta Mujeres, only 15 minutes by car to Haría.

Transportation
Caesar-Manrique Lanzarote international airport is served by 33 airlines connecting the island with all the most important cities in Europe. It is possible to reach Haría in about 0.5 hours from the airport by car. Regular public bus transports are available from the main bus station of the island capital Arrecife (https://arrecifebus.com/index.php?lang=en). If you need specific transportation services from Arrecife, Teguise, or Arrieta, please contact the organizing committee at [email protected]. We cannot promise that dedicated transport will be organized but let us know your needs and we will try to find solutions for you. The field trip transportation will be provided through private bus services.

Conference Venue
The conference venue will be in the Centro Cultural La Tegala, managed by the municipality, offering a theater, exhibit rooms, and a restaurant that opens on the main square of the town (Plaza municipal de Haría). To reach La Tegala by car, we suggest you search for the location “Calle Encarnación Rodrígues, Haria,” where you will find access to free public parking. From this parking spot, it is possible to access by foot the main square and La Tegala. The conference exhibitions will be hosted in the hall of El Aijibe of Haría. The social dinner will be hosted in the Jameos del Agua, which is part of the lava tube of la Corona.

Restaurants and Food
The Tegala Cultural Center hosts a typical Canary restaurant that is open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week. We suggest that you make reservations since the restaurant has limited seating and is open also to regular tourists. Several other options for lunch and dinner are available within walking distance from the conference venue. One of the typical places to have lunch is the municipality market (Municipality Market), where it is possible to find traditional food and regional products (open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Other restaurants and bars within walking distance are shown on the local area map.
