#geodyn15
Second Announcement — January 2015
Meeting Location and Date
The workshop on Comparative Tectonics and Geodynamics of Venus, Earth, and Rocky Exoplanets will be held May 4–6, 2015, at the Keck Center, Keck Institute for Space Studies (KISS), 345 S. Michigan Avenue, Pasadena CA 91106.
Purpose and Scope
Venus and Earth display dramatically different geodynamical and tectonic regimes despite having nearly the same size and bulk composition. Venus lacks evidence of recent plate tectonics but may present analogies with early Earth tectonics. Furthermore, rocky exoplanets likely have a broader range of geodynamic outcomes.
This workshop will bring together scientists studying Earth, Venus, and rocky exoplanets to explore the role of key variables such as mass, composition, temperature, atmospheric interaction, and volatiles on tectonic and geodynamic processes, and to compare planetary evolutionary paths within our solar system and beyond.
Meeting Format
May 4, 2015 | Oral presentations and evening poster session |
May 5, 2015 | Oral presentations |
May 6, 2015 | Oral presentations; workshop will conclude at 3:00 p.m. |

Undergraduate And Graduate Student Travel Awards
Limited student travel support may be available for U.S. citizens or legal residents for this meeting.
Student travel applications should include the following information:
(1) A one-page description of how your participation in the meeting will benefit
(a) you professionally and
(b) NASA’s goals of planetary exploration, particularly Venus;
(2) A copy of your submitted abstract;
(3) Your resume;
(4) A statement of endorsement from a faculty member.
Student travel applications are due on the same date as the abstracts (February 26), but all application materials should be sent to the conveners (Sue Smrekar, [email protected], and Bob Grimm, [email protected]). Applicants will be notified of the selections by March 12. Questions about these awards can be submitted to the conveners.
