2nd International Planetary Caves Conference in Flagstaff, Arizona

2nd Internatinal Planetary Caves Conference

Field Trip Information

The full-day mid-conference (largely self-organized) field trips will be led by Jut Wynne (SETI Institute) and Tim Titus (USGS). Two separate field trips are available — one to a technical cave (led by Jut Wynne) and another to a non-technical cave (led by Tim Titus). Given the sensitive nature of cave resources, specific information on the caves to be visited will be provided at the conference. On the morning of October 20 we will request volunteers (those with rental cars) to drive during the field trip. Sign-up sheets for carpooling will then be made available throughout the day.

Participants should bring field gear, including a small backpack (day pack), personal first aid kit, a sun hat, sunscreen/Chap-Stick, canteen or CamelBak bladder, bandanas (2), gloves (if desired), and shoes appropriate for caving/ hiking in uneven terrain. A limited number of helmets and lights are available; if you would like to reserve a helmet and lights, please contact Jut ([email protected]).

Participants must also bring their own snacks and meals.

The trip is expected to last approximately 8 hours, which includes approximately 2 hours of travel (roundtrip).

All field trip participants will be required to complete, sign, and turn in a field trip waiver form.

No other conference activities are scheduled during the day of this field trip. The tour may be modified or canceled in the event of inclement weather.
